Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8D ED AF Zoom-Nikkor Lens Kit, 5 Year U.S.A. Warranty - with Tiffen 77mm Photo Essentials Filter Kit, Lens Cap Leash, Professional Lens Cleaning Kit

Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8D ED AF Zoom Nikkor Lens is a very good quality lens. It's fast (fixed f/2.8), solid (built like a tank), produce great quality image, and priced very reasonably for a professional grade telephoto lens.Having said that, there are some additional features that would be nice to have for this lens such as image stabilization, more silent autofocus (AF-S), and shorter minimum focus distance but those features will make this lens a lot more expensive (as those feature is included in the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 AF-S VR lens). If budget is not an issue, then I would recommend the 70-200mm f/2.8 AF-S VR (the Vibration Reduction technology and faster and more silent focus are very useful) or the 80-200mm f/2.8 AF-S (which has faster and more silent focus). If large aperture (fast lens)is not your main requirement, then you can get the 70-300mm VR (at a lower price)There are several version of 80-200mm f/2.8 lens, and the latest one (non AF-S model and that Nikon still produce as of 2009) is the two ring model. The one ring push pull model is also good quality lens (solidly built and produce great image quality) but autofocus is much slower. If budget is an issue, the older push pull model would still be a good choice too.If you are wondering whether you should get a fast lens or a lens with VR (Vibration Reduction), here's my take: In overall, VR does help a lot (as it will reduce camera shake) and will produce better/sharper picture than equivalent lens without VR (especially…

Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM Standard Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras

UPDATE - October 3: Wanted to update my review on this lens after using it for a couple weddings and portrait shoots lately. Normally, these wouldn't warrant an update for a lens that is so obviously well-suited to these roles, but this lens literally saved the day. I was shooting a wedding in one of the most difficult type of circumstances - never seen the location before, had 15 minutes before the ceremony to scope things out, had no chance to get my basic flow figured out by watching a rehearsal and this place was an exposure nightmare - black tuxes, white dresses in a very poorly lit chapel. I was shooting with a backup camera (50D - great camera, read my review, but it doesn't perform well enough at high ISO for me to trust it for a wedding shoot as I don't want any noise introduced into things.) So I knew I was going to be limited to some extent in terms of the freedom I'd have to play with different F-stops - I was going to need to be wide open to shoot at an ISO that I trust on the 50D for weddings (no higher than 200 in my experience) and have a shutter speed that wouldn't give me motion blur during the proceedings. Suffice it to say that I was more than pleased with how sharp things were at F2.8. I don't know that I could have done the same thing - on this camera - with the 24-105. That extra full stop down to 2.8 was absolutely critical. On another note, aspiring wedding photographers would be well advised to make an initial investment in a 5D Mark II or something…

Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 AF APO DG OS HSM Telephoto Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras

I just received this lens and made a test shot I've made with other lenses. I took a shot of a satellite dish over a half a block away. Handheld. Magnifying it with Photoshop not only can I see the 'Dish Network' clearly, but magnifying a little more I can read the 'TM' underneath the logo. Clear as a bell. This lens is a vast improvement over the 170-500 model. I used that lens on a wildlife trip and had to jack up the ISO to 800-1600 to get decent shutter speeds and a clear picture. Unfortunately that introduced noise, really bad in some shots. The D300 is much better than the D200 in that regard, but the lens was pretty much unusable without a tripod. This lens will alleviate any of those problems.I usually buy Nikon lenses. This and the Sigma earlier models including the 170-500 (which I had to buy for a trip and now I'm selling) are the only lenses I could find that gave a substantial difference over the Nikon 70-300 VR. The Nikon 80-400 VR is $[...] and focuses slowly, and you can pretty much just crop to achieve the 100mm difference (I tried it to be sure.)I'm looking forward to using this with a 1.4 teleconverter, you lose autofocus and 1 stop, can only go down to 100mm but get a 35mm equivalent of 1050mm! For only $[...]!The quality of the lens is very good. There is zero zoom creep. Autofocusing is fast, though just a tad off (a few pixels off on the 'TM' - could be the camera, and that can be adjusted.) Manual focusing is tricky with the tripod collar on, it blocks…

Canon EOS Rebel T3i SLR Digital Camera Kit with Canon 18-55mm IS Lens + Canon 55-250mm IS Lens + Huge Accessories Package Including Wide Angle Macro Lens + 2x Telephoto Lens + 3 Pc Filter KIT + 16gb Sdhc Memory Card & Much More!!

I received this package last week and must say i am real happy with the overall package price. How-ever there is a few items that i must say is so low quality & really isn't suitable for the camera it came with. The full size tripod is not close enough to be sturdy enough for this camera & would only have the worry that it would fall over at some point. Mini Tripod also, is only good enough for a small point & shoot digi cam.The flash gun, again too under-rated (specs) & low quality for a camera of this type. The camera bag is far to small to carry the camera & equipment that was in the package. Barely enough room to carry the camera with Lens attached & battery charger and that is all you get inside it.As i said though, overall this is a great deal. But i had to go out & purchase a new bag, tripod & a proper flash which has cost me approx. $500 at the local shops. No heartache really, but it did cost me more time to go and get these items. If i had known at the time of the order, i would of purchased these extras through Amazon at the time of the camera order & also saved more money this way. What i would rather see included in this package, is for the above items to be removed and have the suppliers include a more suitable backpack style bag. I just think it's better to have less in the package, but have more quality & suitable items especially with a camera of this quality.I hope this helps spme people out there that are looking to buy…

This is a great deal and the D7 is an amazing camera. The two included lenses are great value as well, and the whole deal is a fantastic starting point for the more discerning amateur photographer/semi-pro. The excitement with the excellent quality camera was a bit offset by the low quality bag and some other accessories - not need to include these, really, whoever has the money to buy a D7 will also be able to afford a good quality bag. However, all in all, go for it!

Sigma 85mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM Large Aperture Medium Telephoto Prime Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras

I've been testing out the exciting, new Sigma 85mm 1.4, and as unworthy and unqualified as I am to be a professional lens tester, I feel compelled to informally share my findings...1.) When it arrived, I thought I had a dud: AF would not stop hunting, nor would it lock on to anything, even high-contrast subjects. It simply jerked back and forth as though it were suffering from a seizure, and didn't stop unless I took my finger off the shutter. This lasted for about 20-25 minutes. Has anyone experienced this?2.) After 20-25 minutes of AF madness, it literally seemed to "snap out of it," and the AF has been nothing short of stellar since. Simply no more hunting or convulsing. Nearly as fast as the EF 85 1.8, but tremendously faster than the 85L II. It now locks onto everything and does it quickly, even in near darkness. This is simply astounding. (This is using center point on a 5D2; the outer points are useless, but this is true for pretty much any other Canon-brand lenses, too.) This Sigma's AF locked onto things in mere candlelight that the 85L II just gave up on.3.) The AF on this beast seems to be as accurate, or perhaps even a little bit more so, than the 85L II. Incredible work, Sigma!4.) Biggest concern for me at the moment: The Sigma seems to consistently underexpose by at least 1/3 to 2/3rds of a stop compared to the 85L II. In shooting both at f/1.4 on aperture priority, the Sigma seems to tell the 5D2 to use a far higher shutter speed. Shooting on full manual…

Canon EF 24mm f/1.4 L USM II Wide Angle Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras

I have a trusted FD 24mm 1.4 from the film days I am now using on NEX (=36mm) and Micro 4/3 (=48mm) with adapters. This is an excellent lens which gave me the best photos I've made with it's low light abilities.I recently purchased the EF 24mm 1.4 Mkii from amazon to replace it on Canon Digital Full Frame (5d Mkii) and Crop Sensor (60D) and worry myself sick after having read here and elsewhere about back/front/inconsistent focus, and softness at 1.4.I am no lens tester, just Joe (long time )user but here are my findings:My copy does not have focus problems, although operator error is frequent at this 1.4 aperture.Compared directly to the old FD at 1.4 (on the same Panny G1 body)the EF have more details and contrast . Even on the 3" screen, photos are snappier.Compared to the Canon 50mm 1.4 EF at 1.4, the 24mm have more definition. The 50mm has that halo-dreamy look at 1.4. None of this with the 24mm.Compared to the Sigma 24-60mm/2.8 (another VG lens in my kit and an absolute bargain) at 2.8 and 24mm, the Canon wins hand down.Compared to the Tokina 16-28mm 2.8 (newly released but reputed the best in its class?) at 2.8 and 24mm, the Canon is slightly better in the center but corners are softer.Construction, focus speed, focus noise are superior to the other lenses. It is large and heavy though, even when compared to the gigantic 16-28mm. I guess a battery holder will help balance it at least on the 60D. Manual focus, I like the old FD better but of course the old FD does…

Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 AF APO DG OS HSM Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras

Essentially, the Sigma 150-500 OS is an indirect answer to the Canon 100-400mm F4 IS L lens. The problem with most comparisons is that the Canon F4 costs significantly more. The direct point is that the Canon does perform marginally better in every aspect. The Sigma clearly wins in cost-performance ratio but that also varies based on your intended use and preferences. The main difference is the 70%+ price in the lenses. The Sigma 150-500 is *NOT* a substitute for a low-light high speed use telephoto lens such as F2.8 lenses. However, the 2.8 lenses are an apples to oranges comparison - comparing a 400mm 2.8 that costs several times more ($6500) and suited to a different purpose. The Sigma lens is suited more towards daytime wildlife as opposed to sports events in varying conditions or poor lighting in any situation. The 150-500 has shortcomings compared to the more expensive lenses - which is typically the case for any brand. I still highly recommend the lens & have enjoyed 600+ pictures within 7 days of owning it. The lens is excellent for wildlife, a great "out-of-box" experience with accessories, and will serve most a long time.+ Optics are outstanding considering the market price.+ Less than $1000 USD as of this writing+ 500mm without use of a teleconverter- Not as sharp compared to the 50-500 Sigma but the 50-500 lacks OS/IS+ Light build quality considering lens class- Durability trade-off for lower weight. Sealing not optimal, housing uses plastic.+ Aesthetics.…

Nikon 85mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras

I have used Nikkor lenses for almost 40 years. I have 6 in my bag right now. This is the best lens I have ever used. It is better than the 105 f2.5, and that should say it all. Fast focus, perfect color, contrast, and razor sharp. The 85 mm focal length is perfect for portraits even with the 1.5 factor on a D300 [feels almost like you are using the 105 f2.5!]. On a D700 this lens is stunning in all regards! Combine the 1.8 f-stop with the low noise of today's Nikons and you are set to capture great images in almost any low light situation. The real point of the lens is, of course, the incredible DOF control you have to make your subject pop. I always use aperture priority with this lens to make sure I am controling the f stop, the results are amazing, even wide open. This prime lens really needs to be in your camera bag if you are a serious Nikon photographer. The fit and finish are pure Nikon. This is not a kit lens, it is a lens built for professional use. One more important thought to remember, this lens will work perfectly on the FX sensor of the D3 and D700 as it is not a DX lens. You will not be sorry you bought this lens, esp at the current price.

Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G ED AF-S Nikkor Wide Angle Zoom Lens

Nikon's new 14-24 lens is just phenomenal. The clarity is that of a prime lens. In fact, this super-wide angle zoom lens effectively replaces the equivalent prime lenses within most of its focal length (except perhaps the 24mm range); it's like owning a bag full of prime lenses that have been combined to make one superlative zoom lens.Yes, it's that good. If you check around the web, you will see the pros falling over themselves for this lens after they test it. It's built like a tank and is precise as a Swiss watch.Highly recommended.

Sony 24 -70mm f/2.8 Carl Zeiss Vario Sonnar T Zoom Lens for Sony Alpha Digital SLR Cameras

This is a great lens, no doubt. But I want to take a different approach when reviewing it. The photo gear fanboys will hate this but, I would like to factor in price.A lot of new (and old) non pro photographers think that if they don't have "the best" (and most costly) they can't take a good picture. This is totally false. Satisfying and great photos were taken with gear in the past that would be junk today. Great award winning photos are being taken with so so lenses and amateur cameras today. Digital imaging has also improved image quality as well. With that in mind, is it worth it to spend $1600 on a lens when there are many excellent alternatives made by Tamron, Sony, Sigma, as well as many used Minolta lenses for much less money? Some of those old Minolta lenses are quite good too.If you are not a pro making a living from your images (or a life long photo taking fanatic) save $1000-1400+ dollars and look at the broader range of lenses minus the little blue Zeiss logo.

Sigma 120-400mm f/4.5-5.6 AF APO DG OS HSM Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras

I had read mixed reviews on this lens and wasn't sure if it would be the best choice for my needs. I do mostly wildlife photography and needed a long reach lens. After driving myself crazy, I finally chose to buy it over the more expensive Canon 100-400 IS. I was amazed for so many reasons. Excellent picture quality, great features and for such a heavy lens, the incredible balance made hand holding a breeze at getting clear, crisp photos. I would dare say that the balance of the Sigma is far better than the Canon lens making handheld shots easier. Their weight is very close and the tripod ring, for me, doubles as a grip for handheld shots since it has finger grooves in it. I love the positioning of the full time manual focus ring directly above the tripod ring making it very easy to tweak the Auto Focus if necessary since it has full time manual override. This was a great idea by Sigma.Although I have only been shooting with it for a few months, the construction seems to be excellent. Some reviews I have read say that the matt black finish looks like it would be prone to scuffing, I have found no evidence of this. The HSM AF is fast and quiet. I've also read that the OS seems loud compared to Canon's IS. Well, I have Canon IS and Tamron VC lenses and I don't notice a great deal of difference. Certainly not enough to be an issue. At the high end of 400mm it has been said it drops to very good, this is not unusual and for the most part, not a problem. Even Canon's 100-400mm has had…

Panasonic 7-14mm f/4.0 Micro Four Thirds Lens for Panasonic Digital SLR Cameras

This Panasonic Lumix lens is the 3rd lens I have bought from Amazon and completes my system for G series of Panasonic cameras and lenses. Even though this lens is a little pricey, it is remarkable as to how sharp it is at all f stops and in the zoom ranges. For it's price, it is a bargain in it's range for wide angle zooms and is almost a must for indoor photography. Now I'm looking forward to using it for nature photography using it's range and unique perspective. It along with all the Lumix Lenses are highly recommended!
